Alexander R. Galloway

Alexander R. Galloway is a writer and a programmer. He works on questions of philosophy, technology, and media theory. Professor of Media, Culture, and Communication at New York University, he is the author of numerous books on digital media and critical theory, such as Uncomputable (Verso, 2021) and The Interface Effect (Polity, 2012). His collaboration with Eugene Thacker and McKenzie Wark, Excommunication : Three Inquiries in Media and Mediation, was published with the University of Chicago Press. Together with Jason E. Smith, Galloway has translated Tiqqun’s Introduction to Civil War (Semiotext[e], 2010). For many years, he has been working together with RSG on Carnivore, Kriegspiel and other software projects. Galloway was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship, the Berlin Prize, and a golden Nica from Ars Electronica. Galloway’s writing has been translated into a dozen languages.
As a faculty member of NYU since 2002, Galloway was also invited professor at the University of Pennsylvania and Harvard University, member of the Institute for Advanced Study and the Cinepoetics group of the Freie Universität Berlin.
